AS THE 1960's CLOSED, AUTOMAKERS USED TWO APPROACHES TO SAVE PERFORMANCE HUNGRY
CUSTOMERS SOME INSURANCE MONEY. ONE WAS TO DEVELOP SMALL DISPLACEMENT CARS WITH
PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS. THE OTHER WAS TO OFFER BIG-INCH V8's IN AN INTERMEDIATE
BODY WITHOUT A VIN NUMBER THAT SIGNALED "HIGH PERFORMANCE" TO THE INSURANCE AGENTS.

IN 1970, OLDSMOBILE BLEW ONE RIGHT PAST THE INSURANCE INDUSTRY BY STUFFING A TORQUE MONSTER
455 INTO A CUTLASS SUPREME SX. AND IN STARK CONTRAST TO THE BUDGET MUSCLE CARS, THE SX WENT
FULL-TILT WITH PLUSH INTERIORS, AIR CONDITIONING AND POWER ASSIST FOR JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING.

BUILT ONLY IN 1970 & 1971, THE SX OFFERED MUSCLE CAR POWER WITHOUT BODY STRIPES AND AIR-INDUCTION HOODS.
THE ONLY HINT OF THE IRON BEING PUMPED UNDER THE FLAT HOOD WERE THE CHROME EXHAUST TRUMPETS.

 THIS ORIGINAL 1970 CUTLASS SX CONVERTIBLE RETAINS IT'S ORIGINAL NUMBERS-MATCHING ENGINE. 94,126 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. THE "TURNPIKE-CRUISER" TWO BARREL CARBURETOR & INTAKE MANIFOLD HAVE BEEN REPLACED WITH A
PERIOD CORRECT FOUR BARREL CARB & INTAKE. HOWEVER, THE ORIGINAL ROCHESTER CARB AND INTAKE ARE INCLUDED.

RETAINS STOCK BORE AND INTERNALS EXCEPT FOR PARTS NEEDING REPLACEMENT.
EXHAUST MANIFOLDS HAD SEEN BETTER TIMES & WERE REPLACED WITH CORRECT "W" AND "Z" CODED UNITS..

ENGINE COMPARTMENT STRIPPED & PAINTED.
FACTORY AIR CONDITIONING BLOWS COLD.

TH-400 TRANSMISSION. HOWEVER, IT IS NOT THE NUMBERS MATCHING UNIT.
ORIGINAL 12 BOLT DIFFERENTIAL WITH 3.08:1 RATIO.

 

 ORIGINAL 14" WHEELS WITH NEW CENTER CAPS.
POWER STEERING, POWER DISK BRAKES AND POWER TOP.

STRATO BUCKET SEATS AND CENTER CONSOLE.
